After the flight, things started winding down. The crowds left in another traffic jam.] The two parts of the Stratofox group there went either from the XCOR Aerospace's guest viewing area to XCOR's open house, or from the crowd area back to the Palmer's RV for breakfast. Later we all rendezvous'ed at XCOR before everyone went their own separate ways home.

As the part of the Stratofox team who had watched from the public viewing area was returning back to the RV, we noticed this bus from one of the Mojave schools. So it looks like the local school kids got a field trip. (photo by Ian Kluft KO6YQ) |

Part of the Stratofox team came back to the RV. The Palmers turned around the RV and Ian moved his truck for better shade so the group could have breakfast while the crowds departed. (photo by Ian Kluft KO6YQ) |

This part of the Stratofox team sets up for breakfast between the Palmer's RV and Ian's truck. After putting up the shade tarp on the truck, we jokingly referred to it as a "21st century covered wagon". The "21st century" part was because this is the same truck which carried the nose section from CSXT's unmanned rocket on its first mile down the mountain after recovery from its space flight a little more than a month earlier. The Palmers made breakfast for the rest of us. The RV area is also clearing out and traffic in the background is now flowing out of the airport unrestricted. Shown left to right in the chairs: Jeremy Cooper KE6JJJ, Diane Palmer KC6HVP, and Chuck Hanrahan (photo by Ian Kluft KO6YQ) |

When cell phones started working again as the crowds left, the Stratofox group at the RV parking area contacted the other Stratofox members who were at XCOR Aerospace. Since they had been busy getting tours the whole time, they hadn't been monitoring their Ham Radios. They invited the rest to join them there, since XCOR was holding an open house. XCOR's EZ Rocket is a Long-EZE kit plane (a Burt Rutan
design) modified with two liquid-fuel rocket engines.
XCOR uses this as a platform to develop and demonstrate the
rocket engines they make, which are designed to be reliable
enough for manned vehicles.

On the way back to San Jose, Ian's truck was passed by some vehicles which were obviously also coming back from the SpaceShipOne flight. This SUV sports magnetic signs with its occupants' affiliations, Gizmonics Engineering, The Spaceward Foundation and Elevator 2010. They also recognized our Stratofox signs and gave us the thumbs-up sign. They stopped for fuel at the same place and introduced each other. (photo by Chuck Hanrahan with Ian's camera) |
