This is the 3rd trip Stratofox has taken to Black Rock for recreation
and exploration. Several attendees were also qualifying for membership
in Stratofox.
Previous trips were Stratofox 1 in September 2002 and
Stratofox 2 in August 2003.
Since then we've had a lot of space launches we've been invited to
participate in, making it difficult to schedule a recreational trip.
We accepted that as a good problem to have.
But we're also glad to get a chance to just explore again.
By popular demand, we camped in the same location as we did at Stratofox 2.
We're not publicizing the location, though we know map-savvy folks familiar
with the Black Rock region can figure it out fairly easily from the photos.
As we did last time, we're asking anyone who figures out the location
to keep it to themselves. (You can give yourself a pat on the back.)
This is such a remote area that we don't
want to encourage people who are unprepared to go so deep into the
desert, away from potential help if anything goes wrong.
The paths to this location have ravines on both sides in places.
If any unprepared person goes here and gets stuck, it's too far to
walk back to civilization.
It's possible for a stranded person to die before anyone else comes
along who could offer assistance.
Do not travel to this location unprepared or alone.
The attendees were Nate Dietrich KG6ESJ, TR Fullhart KG6WEL, Ian Kluft KO6YQ,
Sean Lynch KG6CVV, Brian Nelson, Heather Stern KG6ZYC and Andrew Stitt KG6MBP.
